Dyslexia Diagnostic Assessments​

​A diagnostic dyslexia assessment provides a detailed understanding of whether someone might have dyslexia, explores their individual strengths, and indicates where they might benefit from a little extra support. This step can be really helpful in ensuring you and your child get the right kind of help, whether that’s educational adjustments, personalised interventions or access arrangements in school and exams. Assessments are available for students aged 8 and older. If your child isn’t quite 8 yet, don’t worry, you're welcome to reach out for a call and schedule an assessment for when they turn 8.

 

The goal of a diagnostic assessment is to bring understanding, clarity, and support for your child's future. Every report provides personalised recommendations to assist both you and your child, whether at home or school.  During the assessment, I use a series of standardised tests and activities, in line with the current SASC guidelines. This helps me create a complete understanding of your child’s unique strengths and areas where they might benefit from some extra support. There are no right or wrong answers; these tests and activities are simply tools to help me better understand and support your child's individual needs.​The diagnostic assessment includes the pre-assessment background questionnaires (parent/educational/vision), the assessment, all materials, the assessment report (soft copy), and a post-assessment debrief.​​​​ ​​ Note, I do not assess for ASD, ADHD or Dyscalculia.

Exam Access Arrangement Assessments

An exam access arrangement assessment is a short assessment designed to see if a student might qualify for support during their GCSE or GCE exams. These assessments are conducted no earlier than Year 9, in line with guidelines from the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ). As an assessor, I work closely with the school and need to have received a Form 8 with Part 1 completed by the SENCO before I can start the assessment. The SENCO then decides whether the student is eligible for access arrangements and, if so, which are most appropriate, based on the assessment results, teacher feedback & evidence, and the student's normal way of working in both class and during tests and exams. The EAA assessment includes the assessment and all test materials, completion of Form 8, part 2, and working with the school SENCO. ​

Assessment to Inform Intervention

An assessment to inform intervention is a shorter assessment designed to explore areas where a student might experience weaknesses or strengths and may need support. This is not a full diagnostic assessment; however, it can be used to guide and inform support and intervention needs in school, for example, with younger children not yet old enough for a full diagnostic assessment, or with older students to compare against a full diagnostic assessment conducted previously. A short report (soft copy) is provided, outlining the assessment results and recommendations for support.
